Paneer & Pea Curry

Curries don’t have to take forever to cook. Just take this delicious Indian vegetable curry. It’s so easy to make and so quick too. It’s suitable as a side dish or as a full course too- great with bread. Paneer is Indian cheese – it’s available at most supermarkets these days.

RECIPE:

INGREDIENTS:

4 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup paneer (2cm cubes)
1 cup frozen peas
1 small onion (finely chopped)
2cm piece of ginger (grated)
1 large tomato (peeled and finely chopped)
1 green chilli (finely chopped)
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 tablespoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon fresh coriander

DIRECTIONS:
Heat the oil in a deep frying pan. Fry the paneer until golden brown on all sides. Remove from the pan then add the onions, ginger and salt and fry gently for 5 minutes until softened. Now add the coriander powder, cloves and turmeric and fry for 30 seconds. Add the tomatoes and stir for 1-2 minutes. Add 1 cup water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat add the paneer and simmer for 2 minutes. Add the frozen peas and simmer for a further 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat, stir in the fresh coriander, check for seasoning and serve.

SERVING.
Serve as a side dish to another curry or as a main course with rice or Indian breads.
